Spotlight on Peggie May

Peggie retired from the school system with 28 years of service.  She began her career as a Speech and Language Therapist in Metairie, and when she moved to St. Tammany was assigned to Woodlake Elementary where she retired.
Peggie has chosen to lead a fulfilling second half of her life by working as the Coordinator for Keep Mandeville Beautiful, maintaining good health by workouts at the Pelican Athletic Club, kayaking, snorkeling, photography, spending relaxed time with family & friends, traveling, meeting new people, and challenging herself… stepping out of her comfort zone.  She and her husband even renovated their current home!  Who knows they may rent their home and move to the beach!

Her typical day begins around 8:00 with a cup of green tea with yogurt/cottage cheese with fruit.  Peggie receives her daily inspiration and peaceful meditation by reading Jesus Calling.  She then reads her personal/KMB email accounts and then takes necessary actions.  When weather permits she walks 2500 steps around her neighborhood.  She makes arrangements for her special needs brother and her mother and always checks up on her friends.  She loves spending lunchtime with either her friends or her honey.  After working with KMB concerns, she makes her way to PAC for her daily workout.  Then returns home for dinner with honey.  She ends her day with TV, reading, more work, or playing games.
When asked if she had ever attended a concert…Peggie smiled and said “The Beatles in New Orleans in 1964!”  Others were Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Sonny & Cher, The Kinks, Norah Jones, Shania Twain and Michael Bolton.
Any favorite birthday memories?  Turning 50 she celebrated down under in Australia, and on her 60th her honey surprised her by bringing her son and daughter-in-law home from Dallas for a visit.
To Peggie the idea of perfect happiness is to read her Paperwhite Kindle under an umbrella on a white sandy beach with her honey next to her and listening to soft rock or country music in the background.
Peggie’s most favorite & exciting adventure since retiring was last year when she attended her two nieces’ weddings in Caloundra, Australia near Brisbane on the Sunshine Coast.  Besides the weddings, the most memorable activity was visiting the Steve Irwin Zoo.  It was there that Peggie hand-fed kangaroos & Joeys, watched a crocodile jump 10’ to snatch his food, and held a koala bear.
