Spotlight On Rose Mary & John Foster

     Rose Mary retired from the school system as a bus driver in 1998 after serving for 28 years. John retired in 1987 after serving 32 years as Assistant Administrator of NOAH in New Orleans, School Administrator at SELH, and a teacher at all levels.  

     He has spoken in hundreds of educational and religious venues throughout America. He continues in this vein.





     John served as STRSEA’s President for 5 terms and a Board Member for 21 years, District III President, and as 2nd VP, 1st VP, President-Elect, and President of LRTA. He served on the Executive Board for 9 years. He fought 3 years to obtain AMBA benefits for LRTA members. He was instrumental in recruiting over 5,000 LRTA members in a 4 month period, via a DVD- written, narrated and co-produced by John. He also initiated the idea to obtain the first toll free telephone number for LRTA.  


     John and Rose Mary sponsored the first STRSEA “Lifetime Achievement Award”; later, both received it. He also created the local “Retired Employee of the Year” and LRTA’s “Name of Fame Award”. He was awarded both. Perhaps his most cherished award is a commendation from Governor Rick Perry for his work with retirees in Texas. He often speaks in Austin, Texas.


  A typical day for Rose Mary finds her volunteering at her church, cooking for large volunteer groups, visiting with and taking food to her friends, babysitting for a new mother, and helps with the maintenance of their beautiful 3.5 acre property in Folsom.


  She was STRSEA’s Social Chairperson for 17 years. She will always be remembered for her potato salad! John can be found at his favorite coffee shop writing a book manuscript, short story, song, poem, speaking for the Gideons, or playing a round of golf. 


  Doctor John once rode his ten speed bike from Hammond to Ruston alone in 5 days. Since they both love to travel, their three children are sending them on a cruise to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary later this year!


  Their most treasured possession is their landscaped home and cottage. Rose Mary is also enamored with her antique claw foot dining table inherited from her mother.


  “Survivor” is their favorite TV show, which they haven’t missed a season since it began! In addition Rose Mary’s favorite website to kill some time is “Pinterest” especially for its recipes…she is an avid cook, so also loves to watch the Food Network Channel.


  Hidden talents revealed that Rose Mary was the “Outstanding Female Athlete” at Covington High in 1955 for her basketball skills. She is also noted for her flower arrangements. John sang bass in a gospel quartet. A recording artist received permission from him to place a song that he wrote on an album.
