Spotlight on Roxanne Lagarde

Roxanne retired from the St. Tammany School System in 2013 as an elementary supervisor in the Central Office.

She had previously been a middle school teacher and principal of C. J. Schoen Middle and Tchefuncte Middle Schools. In retirement, she has remained active in the Greater Covington Junior League as a sustaining member, as well as, holding positions on the boards of Delta Kappa Gamma, an educational sorority, and President-Elect for our own organization. What you might not know about Roxanne is that she is a very creative and artistic person.

One of her loves is in design. She has decorated her family's beautiful homes with antiques and items she has acquired from numerous estate sales, junk shops, flea markets, and auctions; which she turned into treasures. She is a self-proclaimed "flea market junkie" in her own right. The hunt for all things old and worn is her adventure and her canvases. Her family homes could easily grace the pages of Southern Living!

She is also a talented artist that enjoys creating art on a budget that evolves into mirrors, lamps, to name a few. In fact, one of her many creations is shown in the picture. Roxanne credits her mother for teaching her how to sew at an early age. She has taken her talent for materials and furnishings and has excelled as a seamstress making many of her own curtains, pillows and bedding. In addition, if you ever need a beautiful flower arrangement, Roxanne can deliver!

She and her sister have a small booth in a Jennings Flea Market…she uses it as part of her creative outlet while having fun at the same time. Someday Roxanne might just have a new career in refurbishing old furniture…a vision I can see now!

To live a healthier lifestyle, each day is begun with exercising and taking time for herself. Roxanne’s family is extremely important to her, and she stays busy by helping her daughters and husband, Jules. She enjoys traveling with Jules, now that she has the time, when he has business out of town. She occupies her day in a new city by exploring in search of “treasures”.

She sees her family as her greatest accomplishment. Roxanne has raised four beautiful daughters and has seen each one graduate from her alma mater LSU! One child is now married and has given her the new name “Mimi” with the birth of her first grandchild, Audrey Eleanor. She is now assisting another daughter in preparation of her upcoming marriage in December.

When asked who inspired you? She replied, “My parents. They raised ten children, faith filled and as community activists. Each one of us was encouraged to be our own person. I've carried this with me throughout my life."
